Fall To-Do List

Fall Pic

I realize I am a few days behind the official first day of fall, but I blinked and summer was over so forgive the tardiness.  The start of a new a season presents the perfect opportunity to plan for the months ahead.  I love making a fun seasonal to-do list to accompany the change in seasons and let’s be honest, its the a great excuse to make a list.  (No need to tell me how nerdy I am, I am well aware.)

1- Bake an apple pie.  My mother and sister are both extremely domestic.  I am the opposite.  I blame them for excelling at baking so I never had to.  This year, I plan to dedicate a little time to the kitchen and master the art of baking a pie.

2- Take a hike.  Being located in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains, I really have no excuse for not doing this more often.  Its been years (?) since I’ve hiked them, so this fall it is time to change that.

3- Make s’mores by the campfire.  This one needs no explanation.

4- Invest wisely in a new fall wardrobe.  I’ve been really good with my shopping money recently (shocking) and saving it for something special.  I will post my fall clothing wish list soon with all of the pieces I plan on investing in this fall.

5- Make some easy, inexpensive, yet gorgeous artwork with the falling leaves as in this post.

Anything to add?  By all means, leave a comment.  Happy Fall y’all!

Smokin’

As an Interior Designer, I spend a majority of my day online “shopping”, if you will. I call it research…or procrastination depending on the day. For my readers who do not research design trends on a daily basis or those who have been living under a rock, brass is having a moment right now. I’m not talking about shiny, yellow 90’s brass, but gorgeous smokey, industrial brass and I can’t get enough!

I have compiled a list of my favorite brass light fixtures below.

Brass

1- I used to HATE when my professors would describe a space or building as “sexy”, but there is no other adjective to describe this fixture. What a sexy statement!

2- The Mid-century lines of this fixture would look great over a dining table.

3- I’ve used these sconces before, but I’m so glad they were added in this finish. One part industrial, one part glam, these babies will be a conversation piece in any room.

4- This pretty pendant would make a statement over a bar or even in a powder room.

5- These industrial pendants are popping up in everywhere, but their classic lines keep them from being too trendy. These will stand the test of time and be a classic addition to any space.

6- This pendant from Crate and Barrel is a wallet-friendly version for those looking to add a little brass without investing too much. I would love to see these suspended on either side of an upholstered headboard (in gray velvet, just sayin’!).

I am loving this smokin’ trend and I hope to use more of it in some of my designs.
