2014 Reading List: Update

Image

I know we are midway through February, but I swear I finished this book in January as promised!  Being the huge historical fiction NERD that I am, this book was a great way to propel me to reading more in 2014.  It was extremely bittersweet, but more importantly very (fictionally) enlightening about the events surrounding the Holocaust in France.  As a third grader I was very interested in the events leading up to the Holocaust and World War II and would make my parents take me to the library religiously so I could check out more books on the subject.  (I know, I was a morbid child.)  However, the Vel d’Hiv was an event I was completely unaware of before picking up this book.

If you like historical fiction, are a francophile, or want to learn more about the Vel d’Hiv this is the book for you.  It reads very quickly and you just can’t put it down until you know what happens!

I am (sort of) on track this month as well…10 pages counts as halfway, right?  I’m reading The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao and those 10 pages have blown me away.  Looking forward to reading the remaining 325 pages!

Valentine’s

Heart Detail

I made some simple Valentine’s to send out to my friends this year.  A little paper, stickers, some glue, and viola, an adorable way to say, “I love you and thank you for putting up with my shit year after year”.   No wonder my friends (yes you read that correctly, it says “friends”, and no it is not prefaced by “boy-“) look forward to receiving these every year.  All jokes aside, homemade is always better in my book so even if you aren’t crafty, people appreciate the thought and sentiment you put in — even if it is minimal! 😉

Work It Out

January is over and so are most people’s New Year’s resolutions.  If you are one of the ones who has fallen off the work-out wagon, this playlist will get you up and running (see what I did there?).  This is a combination of rap, hip-hop, indie, and guilty pleasures alike so no matter what your music taste, there’s no excuse not to get that booty movin’.  You can thank me later.
